Teaching has always been a passion of mine and I welcome sharing my knowledge with others. If you have a basic understanding and want to take what you’ve been doing to the next level, If you have "hit the wall", I can help you look at things from another point of view.
A few years ago I began teaching private guitar lessons again in the West Chester area between touring and studio dates. It’s been incredibly gratifying watching my students writing songs, recording in their studios, producing demos/CD's or working towards furthering their performing goals.
Students contact me when they’ve reached a point where they’re blocked from further progress. They’ve hit a wall and are repeating the same tired old things in their playing over and over again.
Core concepts in my teaching: I will help you understand the mechanics of music theory, guitar technique, and teach you all the tricks n' licks of the trade. I’ll teach you the rules, all the concepts underneath the rules and the fun part, when to break the rules! Together we will discover and build on your strengths and uncover and overcome your weaknesses. Each lesson will be personalized for you. I will also make a DVD Video of your lessons so you can play along with me, see where my hands go and talk you through each lesson every week.
It's amazing to watch a student make a break-through, when the light bulb goes on as we work together. They become better musicians: learning, understanding and exploring new ways to play. Let’s talk about where you are now and where you’d like to be. All conversations welcome. For private lessons in the West Chester, PA area
Buck Reed, one of my students makes a comment on Facebook "Being taught music by the American guitar master John Lilley is such an inspiring part of my life these days. Sitting down with my guitar with him is literally going to the musical well of knowledge. You know, he got to play guitar with Doc Watson as a child....How cool is that!" Thank you for sharing all your knowledge John!
